About Us

The Columbia Collaborative is a forum of signatory Secwépemc communities (Campfires) who are the historic Caretakers of interconnected areas of the Columbia River Basin; also known as the “Eastern Caretakers” of the Secwépemc Nation. The Eastern Caretakers consist of:

Stationed at the headwaters of the Columbia River near Invermere, Shuswap Band coordinates the Columbia Collaborative as the Eastern Gatekeepers (also referred to as the Columbia Campfire) of Secwépemcúlecw. Due to shared interests, ancestry, and similar land use, the leadership signatories have committed to working together in transparency for the best interests and management of timcw as it relates to the Columbia River Basin. The Columbia Collaborative is a forum to address shared interests, concerns, and priorities through transparency, mutual respect, and collaboration. It is through our shared ancestry and unity as Secwépemc that the Columbia Collaborative commits to working together to strengthen our stewardship success over the Columbia River Basin.
